HOME SWEET HOME

It’s been a while.

Houston Texas is the land that I (Jack) know as my hometown.

It had been over a year since I had been home and hugged my family, and it felt good knowing I finally had some time to spend with them. Danny and I found a cute high rise to stay in the medical district near my father’s house.

Soon after settling in, we went to go visit Dad. The first thing I noticed was how in the year that I had not seen him, he had lost a ton of weight.

He was 76 and already had plenty of signs of aging, but now he looked less spry, less like the dad I used to hike with and more like a family member that I needed to care for.

I then felt an immense sense guilt for not being there for him more often.

My father is incredibly antisocial. He is a unique person in that he loves five things: god, the law, history, jogging, and his family.

We decided to extend our trip to HTX from three days to six so I could spend as much time as I could with my dad.

It was then that I decided that I need to make more of an effort to visit my family.

At least once every 3-5 months.

Some highlights of the HTX trip were:

Eating Tejas Chocolate and BBQ in Tomball with my mom

Shooting with my dad!

Reminiscing on days when we were all younger

And of course, everyone loved taco.
